Job Description

Reporting directly to the Vice President for University Relations and serving as a key member of the Division of University Relations' senior leadership team, the AVP will direct thirteen of the fundraising programs within the University of Maryland's schools, colleges, and specific units that are historically for nearly 90% of the university's fundraising attainment (those units totaled more than $230 million in FY2023 out of a total attainment of more than $252 million). Following the monumental success of the Fearless Ideas campaign, which more than doubled Maryland's now $1.2 billion endowment, the new AVP will be a significant leader in the design and planning of the next campaign which is currently in the silent phase and will publicly launch in fall 2025.

In close partnership and collaboration with the Vice President for University Relations, Assistant Vice President for Central Development, the school/college deans, and additional university leadership, the AVP will establish ambitious fundraising goals and develop performance metrics for development units and staff; driving efficiency and maximizing philanthropic support; utilize data analytics tools to identify trends and formulate strategies to drive the gift officer metrics framework; work with development officers and campus partners to create and execute donor strategies; provide training and mentorship to fundraising staff; and maintain their own portfolio of high-level prospects.

The successful candidate will have a master's degree and at least 15 years of fundraising experience and strength in developing thoughtful donor strategies, preferably in higher education; progressive experience supervising and managing staff, budgets, and developing and implementing annual goals; extensive experience managing and working with high level donors; experience in fundraising and capital campaigns; and developing and implementing special events.
