Associate Vice President for Foundation Relations

Job Description

Boston Children’s Hospital Trust seeks an experienced, results-oriented, and collaborative leader to serve as the Associate Vice President for Foundation Relations (AVP). The AVP will design a comprehensive plan to enhance foundation giving and revenue growth, align with Boston Children’s mission as the nation’s leading pediatric hospital, and oversee a high-performing team. The team’s accomplishments and future potential are linked to the extraordinary caliber of science and innovation that occurs at Boston Children’s.

Foundation revenue has been a significant driver of overall philanthropy, and a new leader will be expected to build on that record, deepening and expanding support. This is a unique opportunity to foster a collaborative and inclusive team culture while driving significant funding. It comes at a moment of inflection and growth as the Trust prepares for its next comprehensive campaign, which will focus on pioneering research, innovation, and cross-disciplinary collaborations to address complex challenges in pediatric healthcare.

The Associate Vice President for Foundation Relations will step into a pivotal leadership role during an exciting period of growth and transformation at Boston Children’s Hospital Trust. Reporting to the Vice President for Development, the AVP will lead and direct a comprehensive foundation relations program that derives year-over-year growth from foundation support and that elevates a skilled team of professionals to new heights. They will work at top levels of the hospital, partnering with key clinical leaders, scientists, board members, executives and other senior Trust staff to secure philanthropy that advances the Hospital’s mission.

The Foundation Relations team comprises a seasoned staff of twelve who have been integral to the success and rising trajectory of annual foundation revenue, an average of $85M over the past three years. This support is largely restricted, supporting research and other high priority areas across the hospital; the caliber of science at Boston Children’s Hospital is unparalleled, and the Hospital is the 3rd highest recipient of NIH funding of any hospital, whether pediatric or adult. This fuels the foundation relations team with matchless opportunities to create impact.

The AVP will help the team strengthen their relationships with foundation representatives and with faculty throughout the hospital. They will increase opportunities for large gifts and foster ideation around complex proposal development, particularly for cross-disciplinary projects that align with funders’ broader goals for impact. Additionally, the AVP will advance a culture of collaboration and open pathways for professional development and leadership. By exemplifying open communication and trust, the AVP will create an environment where team members feel supported and empowered to make meaningful contributions, build strong institutional relationships, and continue expanding philanthropic support.
