Associate Director of Development – College of Education

Michigan State University | East Lansing, MI | Hybrid

Michigan State University’s College of Education and University Advancement seeks a dynamic and results-driven Associate Director of Development to join our team. This role is a key fundraising position, focusing on identifying, cultivating, soliciting, and stewarding major donors, including alums, corporations, and foundations. The successful candidate will manage a portfolio of 125-150 prospects, securing major gifts of $100,000+ to support the College of Education’s mission of improving teaching and learning, particularly in urban and global education.

As part of the College of Education Advancement team, the Associate Director will play a pivotal role in shaping fundraising strategies and preparing for MSU’s next capital campaign. This includes engaging donors through 15-20 face-to-face visits per month, coordinating with university leadership, and developing funding priorities. The position requires strategic thinking, strong relationship-building skills, and the ability to align donor interests with MSU’s philanthropic goals. Regular travel is required to meet with donors and key stakeholders.

The ideal candidate will have 3-5 years of professional fundraising experience, preferably in higher education or a related field, with a proven track record of securing major gifts. Experience with Moves Management or other donor engagement strategies is highly desirable. Strong communication, organizational, and collaboration skills are essential, as the role involves working closely with faculty, administrators, and advancement colleagues to advance fundraising initiatives. Knowledge of charitable giving tax laws is a plus.
