Job Description

The Moran Company (www.morancompany.com) is pleased to partner with Friends of the Children - Los Angeles (www.friendsla.org) to recruit the organization’s next Major Gifts Officer.

Founded in 2017, Friends LA is a chapter of the national Friends of the Children network, which began 30 years ago. Friends LA’s mission is to impact generational change by empowering youth facing the greatest obstacles through long-term professional mentorship relationships for 12+ years, no matter what. Professional mentors (Friends) provide weekly one-on-one support to children and families from kindergarten through high school, helping them navigate significant challenges. Friends LA is recognized as LA County’s premier child mentoring organization, using a two-generational approach to support both children and their caregivers.
Friends LA has a dedicated team of 70+ full-time staff, including a dynamic Executive Director and an engaged Advancement team with a Chief Advancement Officer, External Relations Manager, and Development Operations Manager. A committed Board of Directors supports the expansion of philanthropic efforts. With a $7.5 million annual budget and an ambitious $25 million expansion plan, Friends LA aims to double the number of families served by 2027. A study by the Harvard Business School Association of Oregon found that for every $1 invested, the community benefits over $7 in saved social costs.
This is a hybrid position based in Los Angeles County. Candidates must live in LA County, be available to work on-site at least once a week, and attend regular donor meetings.

Friends LA has strong government and foundation support and is now expanding its individual major gifts program. This newly created Major Gifts Officer role will be key in building and growing major philanthropic support, securing gifts of $10,000+ from individuals, family foundations, and donor-advised funds. The MGO will work closely with the Executive Director, Chief Advancement Officer, and Board of Directors to cultivate relationships and steward major donors toward significant investments in Friends LA’s mission.

The ideal candidate is a mission-driven, relationship-focused fundraiser with a proven track record of securing major gifts, engaging board members, and fostering a culture of philanthropy. This individual must be able to authentically convey Friends LA’s impact, inspire donors, and lead with warmth, confidence, and authenticity. A bachelor’s degree and/or five years of relevant fundraising experience is required.

The salary range is $140,000 - $155,000, based on experience. The comprehensive benefits package includes 100% employer-paid medical, dental, and vision insurance, retirement match, life and disability insurance, cell phone/work-from-home allowance, and generous PTO and holidays.

Interested candidates should submit a resume and cover letter to Angie Heer, The Moran Company. The resume should include education, experience, fundraising accomplishments, employment dates (month and year), positions, and organization names. The cover letter should highlight relevant experience, passion for Friends LA’s mission, and approach to major gifts fundraising.
Application Deadline: April 1, 2025.
