Job Description
The Regional Director of Development, located in Los Angeles, California, holds the responsibility of securing donations of $100,000 or more from prospects from across the Southwest including Southern California, Arizona, and Las Vegas. This position involves working closely with the Assistant Vice President for Regional Programs and other staff at the LA Dick Clark programs, while reporting to the Executive Director of Regional Advancement. Key responsibilities include identifying, cultivating, and soliciting both new and existing donors, especially those capable of making significant contributions but including gifts from across the spectrum from leadership annual gifts to the principal gift level. Additionally, the Director will support and facilitate the work of the LA Regional Council, which is comprised of university ambassadors whose primary objective is to identify, cultivate, and engage key donors and prospects to assist the University in serving its students. This role requires extensive travel throughout the Southwest region to engage with alumni, parents, and donors, and requires collaboration with campus colleagues to align donor interests with funding priorities.
This position is eligible for Flexible Work Arrangements.
Education and Experience
• Bachelor’s degree required; advanced degree preferred.
• A successful record of accomplishment in major gifts is necessary and experience within an academic setting is preferred. The ideal candidate should have 5+ years of successful major gift experience working with donors and prospects at the highest levels of capability.
• Exceptional relationship building with the ability to manage and collaborate with internal and external stakeholders.
• A valid driver’s license is required.
Skills and Knowledge
• The ideal candidate must be highly collaborative and have a demonstrated ability to work successfully with external constituents such as alumni and parents, as well as internal constituents such as administration, fundraising colleagues, faculty and deans. At the same time, the ability to work independently and manage competing deadlines and objectives is important.
• The position requires enthusiasm, strategic thinking, exceptional communication skills, and the ability to problem solve challenging situations.
• Proficiency in Word, Excel, and Powerpoint, including the ability to produce presentation quality documents is required.
