Lead Fundraising for Two Prestigious Colleges at MSU! Michigan State University seeks a Senior Director of Development to lead fundraising efforts for both the College of Social Science (CSS) and James Madison College (JMC). This high-impact leadership role within University Advancement is responsible for overseeing fundraising strategies, building donor relationships, and managing a team of advancement professionals.
About the Role
The Senior Director serves as the chief development officer for CSS and JMC, developing and implementing fundraising strategies that support scholarships, research, and faculty programs. This role will be critical in shaping both colleges’ priorities as MSU enters its next comprehensive campaign.
Key Responsibilities:

• Lead fundraising efforts to secure major and principal gifts

• Manage and mentor a team of six, including frontline fundraisers

• Develop and execute campaign strategies, including donor cultivation and case statement development

• Collaborate with deans, faculty, and university leadership to align fundraising with institutional goals

• Maintain a portfolio of high-level donors and prospects

Qualifications

Required:

• Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field

• Five to eight years of progressively responsible fundraising experience

• Proven ability to secure major gifts of $50,000 or more

• Strong leadership, communication, and relationship-building skills

Preferred:

• Eight or more years of experience, preferably in higher education

• Experience managing fundraising teams and comprehensive campaigns

• Knowledge of planned giving and charitable tax laws
