The ADA Forsyth Institute seeks a driven and entrepreneurial Director of Development to lead a comprehensive fundraising program that fuels the institute’s growth and innovation in oral health research. Founded in 1910, ADA Forsyth is the leading independent dental research institute, located in Kendall Square, Cambridge, MA, with a new facility launching in 2025. Now partnered with the American Dental Association, the institute advances global health through pioneering research, clinical programs, and outreach efforts such as ForsythKids and ForsythCares.

Position Overview

The Director of Development (DoD) will develop and execute a strategic fundraising plan to meet annual and endowment goals. Reporting to the CEO, Dr. Wenyuan Shi, the DoD will manage and expand ADA Forsyth’s donor base, drive major gift programs, and secure support through corporate sponsorships, grants, planned giving, and events. As a key external representative, the DoD will cultivate relationships with donors and corporate partners, leveraging the Institute’s legacy and innovative research contributions.

Key Responsibilities

• Strategic Planning: Shape and lead a comprehensive fundraising plan aligned with ADA Forsyth’s mission. Set measurable goals for annual and long-term growth, ensuring progress is tracked and areas for proactive engagement are identified.
• Fundraising: Grow and engage a diverse portfolio of individual and corporate donors. Design targeted strategies for donor acquisition, cultivation, and retention, with a focus on major and planned giving, to drive significant support.
• Event Management: Oversee an effective cycle of development events to boost donor engagement and broaden the institute’s reach.
• Collaboration: Work closely with the CEO, board, and program directors to align on fundraising priorities, develop donor relationships, and enhance ADA Forsyth’s visibility. Ensure consistency in donor communications with the support of the marketing team.

Key Qualifications:

• At least five years of experience in development within a complex or research-focused environment, with a proven ability to secure major gifts and meet ambitious goals.
• Strong skills in prospect research, donor relationship management, and solicitation, particularly for gifts of six figures or more.
• Proficiency with data and analytics for tracking donor engagement and retention, along with expertise in Raiser’s Edge or similar platforms.
• Excellent communication and presentation skills, with the ability to represent ADA Forsyth confidently and persuasively across diverse audiences.
• Adaptability to a dynamic work environment with strong multitasking abilities, along with budgeting experience and data-driven planning.
