Position Title: Development Officer II
Working Title: Program Director, Principal Gifts

Michigan State University (MSU) seeks a talented and motivated individual for the role of Program Director, Principal Gifts within University Advancement. Reporting to the Associate Vice President of University Advancement, this role plays a key part in managing daily operations and strategy for the Principal Gifts team. The Program Director will work closely with high-net-worth households, advancing their engagement with MSU through strategic planning, execution, and reporting.

Key Responsibilities:

• Work in partnership with the Executive Director of Principal Gifts and officers to develop andimplement strategies for donor cultivation, proposal development, solicitation, and stewardship.

• Manage and track the full principal gift portfolio, coordinating with key university members andcampus partners to align with MSU’s strategic funding priorities.

• Serve as a thought partner to Principal Gift Officers and leadership to enhance and move donorrelationships forward.

• Provide logistical support and strategy for VIP donor engagement, proposal development, andevent coordination.

• Prepare agenda and reports for monthly Principal Gifts team meetings and support key leadershipmeetings with MSU’s President and Vice President of University Advancement.

• Ensure coordination with the VPUA office to secure high-level meetings with university leadershipfor top donors.

• Collaborate with Prospect Development and the Engagement team to ensure accurate researchand implementation of engagement strategies for high-net-worth prospects.

Qualifications:

• Bachelor's degree in communications, public relations, marketing, business, or a related field.

• A minimum of 3-5 years of progressively responsible work experience in public relations, higher

education fundraising, or a related field.

• Preferred experience in a complex university environment, especially working with high-net-worth

individuals or fundraising activities.

• Strong organizational, analytical, and project management skills with the ability to handle

multiple ongoing projects.

• Excellent verbal and written communication skills, along with a high degree of professionalism

and confidentiality.
