Assistant Director of Development, Individual Giving

Job Description

Position salary range:  $60,000.00

Position reports to:  Sr. Director of Philanthropy, Individual Giving

Recruit, retain and upgrade donors in various donor segments by developing and managing a blended portfolio of individuals. The Assistant Director will work closely with colleagues and board members to support a continuum of individual donor households, moving from general memberships and annual giving into the ranks of donors making major and planned gifts.


Essential Duties

  • Manage an active portfolio (approximately 200 donors and donor prospects at any time) in all phases of the moves management cycle through 1:1 interactions, strategic communications and event engagement to increase giving.

  • Collaborate with the Assistant Director of Development, Annual Giving on the fundraising efforts, including multi-channel campaigns and the Garden Fund donor group.

  • Support the Senior Director of Development, Individual Giving with donors in the premiere philanthropic group, Patrons Circle.
    Collaborate with the Development Operations team to review prospect research and data analysis related to giving patterns and capacity ratings for targeted prospects.

  • Contribute regularly to tracking and progress reports on prospects through software platforms.

  • In collaboration with colleagues and board members, develop prospect strategies to support and sustain the Garden’s overall philanthropic base.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree preferred or comparable combination of education and work experience.

  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in fundraising activities preferred. Can include jobs in related areas of sales.

  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to establish effective relationships with prospects, donors, staff and board members.

  • Strong computer skills, including Microsoft Office and a CRM database, preferably Salesforce.

  • Excellent communication skills, both oral and written, as well as comfortable giving presentations to various audiences.

  • Ability to work independently and to take initiative.

  • Strong attention to detail.

  • Experience working with volunteers for fundraising initiatives.

  • Ability to work off-hours with occasional evenings, weekends and holidays

Equipment Used: Typical office equipment.

Internal Communication: Frequent interaction with all Garden employees.

External Communication: Regular communication with Garden employees, members, trustees and potential donors. This could be in person, via telephone, and/or email.

Working Conditions

  • No physical effort beyond what is typically required in a normal office environment. Time periods of high workload may require additional hours. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.

  • Must be able to walk, sit, stand, stoop, kneel, bend, see, hear, speak, read, and type. Manual dexterity and the ability to lift up to 10 pounds required.
